What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese method of healing, and dates back to the Yellow Emperor Huang Di, whose most famous work, Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen, dates back to about 2500 BC. Over the centuries, it has spread to countries in the Far East and later Europe, and today to a large extent in North America.
One of the main benefits of acupuncture is that each person experiences it holistically, and practically never will an acupuncture treatment treat two people the same way, nor will a treatment be repeated for the same person. Treatments are unique and tailored for each individual specifically each visit. The point is, through careful diagnostic methods that are based on ancient Eastern methods of reading and listening to the body, it reveals why the body, mind and spirit become entangled in the symptoms that are currently manifesting. Acupuncture and its principles of diagnosis seek a 'key' that will unlock the source of the problem and ultimately deal with it to subsequently help relieve the symptoms.
Acupuncture uses meridians that make up the pathways through which vital energy flows, called Chi or Qi in China, and Ki in Japan. Vital energy represents our life energy without which we could not live - it is strength, life force, that which what makes us alive, our breathe, our spirit.
As stated in ancient Chinese records, it is this vital energy that pushes our organism, our body forward and gives strength to our bloodstream to flow through our veins - it is our vital Qi energy. Through the meridian system, our body connects, communicates, nourishes, maintains itself, and functions - it is a self-sustaining mechanism that works perfectly. Therefore, we can diagnose and treat it using meridians to bring it back to that perfect self-sustaining life mechanism and balance. Meridians can be read just as EEG scan reads and diagnoses via electrodes. The meridians connect the whole body and run as pathways running from most superficial parts of our body, e.g. our skin, to the deepest parts, such as our organ system, brain, tissues, etc. Connecting points, or crossing points, or guiding points of our body along the meridians are acupuncture points which are also the intersections of the essential energy flow in the body through which ‘commands’ can be given to alter any dis-balance occurring.
This diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the human body has evolved over the last 3000 years, and the beauty of such medicine is that it continues to produce wonderful results.
The theory and practice of Acupuncture truly and thoroughly describes the functioning of the human organism as such, even in records that are several thousand years old. Much of these ancient observations about human health and illness include much of today's problems, diseases, illnesses, and the mental, energy, emotional, psychophysical and spiritual aspects of a person. Nothing is excluded, rather, all aspects of your being are included.
Therefore, acupuncture, as one of the many healing methods that traces its roots back to ancient China, is not new, but has survived for centuries serving humanity as a knowledge and skill that gives us the answer to how our body functions regardless of any trends.
Acupuncture simply is.
